Second Eden Studio provides sustainability consultation, building design, and graphics for homeowners, developers, architects, businesses, and more. Second Eden relishes in the challenge to improve existing buildings by respecting its original design, improving occupant thermal comfort, and redefining a space that will embody sustainability. Second Eden knows that the responsibility to design new buildings and interiors must be clean and green from feasibility to planning and construction to occupancy.
Second Eden Studio has been in Charlotte for more than four years, but Elena Michel has over ten years of experience on two continents.
In England, she began at Alastair Binnie Archtiecture & Environment during graduate school and went on to Pope Priestley Architects. In 2007, she progressed to Tetlow King Architecture & Masterplanning who brought me on board to create and manage a sustainability department. Sustainability at Tetlow King was so successful that Elena contributed to naming and forming Stanbridge Sustainable Solutions, a green consultancy, with the practice to cope with the demand. In addition to being employed full-time, she also became self-employed with Eco Inc to provide sustainable consultancy and design.
Elena achieved an Architecture BS (Art Minor) in Minneapolis at the University of Minnesota. With graduation looming in the foreground in 2003, she began searching for a graduate program that could enhance my understanding of green building. She turned my attention overseas to the Oxford School of Architecture, England, where Elena achieved a Master’s Diploma in Sustainable and Energy Efficient Building.
Elena Michel settled in Charlotte in December 2009. She began Second Eden Studio in February 2010, as one of the first and only sustainability consultation and green building practices in Charlotte. Her professional experiences have invited opportunities to guest speak: Charlotte Talks (WFAE Radio), CPCC, USGBC Clt, UNCC, USPS Clt, and more. Elena's work with Second Eden Studio has produced residential and commercial projects that are independent as well as collaborations with other professionals. Also, she has found that British green practices are contributing to Charlotte’s blossoming approach to sustainability.
